Natural sand dunes. Natuurlijke zandduinen. AARDKUNDE HERPERDUIN Het gebied bestaat bijna uitsluitend uit landduinen met bijbehorende vlakten en laagten. Het maximale reliefverschil bedraagt ongeveer 8 meter. De hoogste duinen komen voor aan de noord en de oostrand van het gebied waar ze een duidelijk contrast vormen met het ervoor gelegen licht golvend dezkzandlandschap. De duinen zijn een gevolg van te intensieve postmiddeleeuwse landbouwpraktijken waardoor de vegetatie degradeerde en zand massal beschikbaar kwam voor verstuiving. Door de overheersende zuidwestenwinden werd het zand in noordoostelijke richting in duinen opgewaaid. De zandduinen werden daar vastgelegd door beplanting met hakhout, dat veel zand inving. Het stuifzand hoopte zich in en rond de houtwal op waardoor een zgn stuifzandwal ontstond, met een langgerekte smalle, steile en hoge vorm, het Herperduin. Opdracht: Parkeer op N 51 45.942 E 005 37.110. Ga naar N 51 45.727 E 005 37.083 en maak daar een foto met daarop jezelf met GPS en op de achtergrond de smalle duindoorgang. Beantwoord in een mail naar de legger de volgende vragen: Hoe groot is het terrein ? Welk specifiek soort duin is hier te zien? Wat voor soort hout groeit op de toppen van de duinen? LOGS MET FOTO EN HET JUISTE ANTWOORD VIA DE MAIL BLIJVEN STAAN, DE REST WORDT VERWIJDERD. GEOLOGY HERPERDUIN The area consists almost exclusively of sand dunes with lowlands and plains. The maximum relief difference is approximately 8 metres. The highest dunes are located at the north and east side of the area where they contrast greatly with the shallow-sloping sands in front. The dunes are the result of over-intensive post-medievel agriculture which caused the vegetation to degrade and the underlying sands to become available en mass to be borne away by wind. Because of the dominant southwest winds the sand was blown to the northeast and formed into sand dunes. Planting of scrub caused the sand to stay. The windborne sand accumulated around and in the scrub and so formed the long, narrow and steep shape called the HERPERDUIN. Task: Park at: N 51 45.942 E 005 37.110 Go to N 51 45.727 E 005 37.083 and take a picture with you and your GPS on it and in the background the narrow sandpassage through the woods. Answer by mail to the maker the next questions: How large is the area? Wich specific type of dune can be found here? What sort of scrub grows on top of the dunes? LOGS WITH PICTURE AND THE RIGHT ANSWER BY MAIL WILL STAY ON THE SITE. THE REST WILL BE REMOVED
