Wijstgronden / "wijst" grounds
St ANNABOSJE Het wijstverschijnsel "Wijst" is een verschijnsel dat optreedt op plaatsen waar twee aardlagen van elkaar verschoven zijn door breuken in de aardkorst. Op die plek bevindt zich zo'n breuk in de ondergrond. Bovendien komt de breuk hier aan de oppervlakte. Een uniek aardkundig verschijnsel. Vroeger was het hoogteverschil hier duidelijk zichtbaar in het landschap, tegenwoordig is dit grotendeels geëgaliseerd. De verschillende aardlagen aan weerszijde van de breuk zijn tot diep in de ondergrond verschoven ten opzichte van elkaar. De grondwaterstroming die komt vanuit het hoger gelegen gebied stagneert op de breuklijn en wordt naar de oppervlakte gestuwd. Dit wordt het wijstverschijnsel genoemd. Bijzonder is dat hierdoor hooggelegen natte delen ontstaan naast lager gelegen gebieden die relatief droog zijn. Opdracht: Parkeer op: N 51 39.868 E 005 35.524 Ga naar: N 51 39.887 E005 35.267 Maak hier een foto vanaf de hoge natte grond met daarop jezelf, je gps en op de achtergrond de grote eik nabij de weg Beantwoord de volgende vragen: Hoe heet de nabij liggende breuk die de wijst veroorzaakt heeft? Wat is kenmerkend van het wijstwater? Wat is de invloed geweest van de wijstgronden op de achternaam van veel omwonenden? St ANNABOSJE The "wijst" phenomenon. "Wijst" is a phenomenon that appears on places where two layers of earth have shifted from each other due to a fracture in the earth's crust. On this spot there is a fracture in the underground which comes up all the way to the surface. A unique geological phenomonen. In the past the height difference was clearly visible, nowadays this is mostly leveled. The different earth layers on either side of the fracture have moved considerablly compared to each other and run deep into the ground. The groundwater flow that comes from higher areas stops on the fracture and is forced up to the surface. This phenomonen is called wijst (in dutch). Remarkable is the fact that higher grounds contain more water and are wetter than the nearby lower grounds. Assignment: Park on: N 51 39.868 E 005 35.524 Go to: N 51 39.887 E005 35.267 Take a picture from the high wet grounds with yourself, your gps and the big oak tree near the road in the background. Answer the following questions: A: What is the nearby breach in the earths crust called? B: What is specific about the water coming up out of a wijst? C: What was the influence of the wijst on the family names of many people living in the neighbourhood?
