Geocache Description:

An easy cache set above the village of Ravensworth with extensive views. Not to be missed are the scant remains of Ravensworth Castle. The footpath can be muddy in wet weather and care should be taken getting to the cache site as it is quite steep.

Ravensworth Castle was the home of the Fitz-Hugh family. Built in the late 14th century, the castle was used as a quarry by the inhabitants of Ravensworth village when it was abandoned in the 16th century. It is now listed in the "Buildings at Risk" register, launched in 1998 by English Heritage: "Much repointing and consolidation is needed to all parts of the building. Significant parts of the building remain but are now at risk."
