Mount
Pleasant
like many
places has many historical markers placed at the taxpayers expense. But how many of us stop to
read them? In this cache you will stop and visit five markers
in the western part of Mount Pleasant. Use the directions
below to determine the location of the
cache.
Due to signs being removed
and some being replaced, this puzzle was updated on January 20,
2008. I have also provided driving directions instead of waypoints
for the signs. The final cache remains in the same
location.
The coordinates above are
for the North-bound side of Hwy 17. There is an historical
marker directly across on the South-bound side, but I didn't
include it in this puzzle since it can be difficult to stop
at. After stopping at the first sign, make an almost
immediate right on to Old Georgetown Road to get the second sign.
Follow this road until it rejoins Hwy 17 and turn right. The
third sign is just past the next traffic light. Turn left on Hwy
41. One sign will be on your right, the final sign will be on the
left just past the traffic light. You can safely turn around about
a half mile past the light. After you get the last sign, you can
turn right and there is a parking lot you can use while you
calculate the final coordinates.

A = # of years on the sign
"Confederate Lines"
B = Sweetgrass baskets have
been sold on Hwy 17 since the 1B30s
C = # letters in the first
word of the title of the last sign (if driven as described
above)
D = # of unique sides on
“Phillips Community" sign
W = # of dates on the
“Christ Church” sign
X = # of markers that
mention George Washington
Y = # of letters in the
country where Dr. James Rutledge was born.
Z = Christ Church was
restored and consecrated in the year 187Z.
Note: Do not include the
sign “erection” information when answering the
above.
The final cache is a short
walk very near parking, but is not readily handicap accessible.
Please note, at times there will be lots of muggles present
near the final cache. Please rehide it well.
Initially, the cache was
stocked with lots of new items for children and a few for adults.
As always, if you trade an item please trade even or up. (Your used
movie stub belongs in a nearby trash can not the cache.)
Please note
there is a cache location code stuck inside the lid. This is the
clue for a future cache – the location is so secret even I don’t
know it yet. If you live in the area you may want to write it down
for future reference – or you can always come back
later.
