The start of a line destined never to serve its intended purpose. Originally the nearby passing loop of Kinchina was opened in 1924 as part of the South Australian Railway's "Main South" line to Murray Bridge and beyond. However in 1967 a siding was built, starting here, to serve the nearby quarry which was to provide stone for the proposed Chowilla Dam. As this dam never eventuated, the stone was not required, and although the quarry lives on, the siding was removed in 1975. The passing loop, not capable of being extended due to the terrain, had been removed in 1973.
Please stay on the North side of the fence, as this IS where the cache is hidden. Please, only cross the railway track at the nearby authorised crossing.
