Geocache Description:

An easy cache on some Eagle Scout Project trails in Paxton

Behind the old Paxton Pool there is a conservation area, jointly provided by the Paxton Conservation Commission and the State of Massachusetts. It covers some wooded area and along the edges of Illig Pond.

There are some really nice walking trails through here. At least two Eagle Scouts had a hand in the maintenance of this area: Brent Hiller in 1980, and William Innis in 1992

The Oak Loop Trail is the longest of the trails here, at about .7 miles in length. It winds its way through heavy mountain laurel and then loops back around to the edges of the pond. This cache is as close to half way around the loop as I could find a good spot, so you might as well take the whole loop. It's a nice walk.

The cache is hidden less than five feet from the trail. It is a 5.1 cup Lock-n-Lock container, with just a few trinkets and a log book inside. It should be an easy find. Please make sure to cover it well, since it is so close to the trail.

Parking is readily available at N 42° 18.468, W 71° 55.801. It is very close to the Over the Fence cache, so use that one as a Gas Saver.

I stopped at the police department to inquire about the "Paxton Residents Only" sign on the way into the parking lot. They told me that it applied to the playground and the old pool, but that anyone using the trails would be OK. They did stress that the area was only avilable during the day, so no night caching!

Enjoy the trails!
