Geocache Description:

“INDIANA SPIRIT QUEST”

The Indiana Spirit Quest series of geocaches will take you to a number of historic cemeteries and historic sites built by Hoosier Pioneers. In less than three years, the quest has grown to over five hundred and fifty caches hidden in Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, Kentucky and Ontario, and the hiders have grown to over thirty cacher teams, most of which are comprised of Dogs and their Humans. Over 1,000 cacher teams have logged over 22,000 finds.

INDIANA SPIRIT QUEST #574

"Fairly Syked"

It's no secret that we are crazy about geocaching, but we're also fairly psyched about cemeteries. For us it is like visiting an art museum, a history museum and a park all rolled into one. We especially love the ones we discover while shunpiking! (Look it up; it is a real word. Although we didn't believe it either the first time we heard Bad Majec say it.)

Located just a little north of Greens Fork in Clay Township in Wayne County you will find Fairfield Cemetery. Although it is located at a country backroad intersection, the muggle traffic is surprisingly brisk. Be sure to pull your cachemobile completely off the road.

There are several veterans buried here, including Samuel Thorne, whose stone reads..."died a soldier." Take time to enjoy the many unique memorials, including a bench in the southwest corner with an interesting sentiment written on the nearby stone.

Geocache Handicaching Ratings

HandiCaching.com rating: H12113

The cache is hidden away from graves. At first we weren't sure if there was a really good place for a cache in this cemetery or not. But after we started looking, we found one place that seemed to have an unlimited number of potential hiding spots. Have fun searching them and, as usual, please leave the cache (and the other hiding spots) exactly as found.

As always, no ISQ searching after dusk, and cache in, trash out.
