Welcome back to the days of old. The 101 uses cache will take you back to the old holding yards of Shepparton where you will find a piece of the past made with a unique Australian bush craft method of construction. This method can still be seen today on most farms and on many of the old bush dwellings that are seen while on caching field trips. Most people would be aware of this product but alas, throughout time, the special Australian slang name given to such a multi use item has mostly been forgotten even a google search is of little help. I was glad to of come across this exhibit of bush ingenuity. Having first heard about the slang name in a poem I was still unsure to what exactly it was until coming upon this structure. I have included the poem but without the Australian slang name. There is a plaque near by that will tell you the phrase name and provide the information you need to fill the gaps of the poem below. Have a read and see if you can guess what the product or the Australian name is before you head out and let me know in your log if you have heard of the expression before.
I would like to tell you a poem of praise,
of the …. … .. ….. and the countless ways,
its put to use by the poor and rich,
so here’s to the grand old …. … .. …..
Don’t ask me how it got its name,
They were using it long before …. … .. came,
I believe old Noah used a bind and flitch,
To patch up his ark with the …. … .. …..
You can build a shed or a yard or a gate,
And you don’t need a bolt or nails or mate,
Just 8 gauge wire and a bar and twitch,
And your in business with the …. … .. …..
If your car or truck breaks down the track.
And your miles from town in the great outback,
You would be surprised what a bloke can fix
In a time like that with the …. … .. …..
You can patch up a table or a bed or chair
A veranda post or a broken stair
Why use a saddle cloth and a coolabar twitch,
And set a ringers leg with the …. … .. …..
You can mend broken hearts or the handle of an axe,
An Indigo tank or a stove that’s cracked
Why I even heard a tale about a wicked old witch,
That mended her broom with the …. … .. …..
Well that’s just a few of the countless ways
they use the old ….. from day to day
So whatever your repairing it don’t matter which
Remember this poem of the …. … .. …..
The cache that you seek is a micro with log book only so please BYO pen.
As a bonus with this hide a coordinate will be on the top of the log sheet and will take you to a close by location where you will find a container with examples of this most useful item as well as cards containing the complete words of the poem. This is a gift and is yours to keep (you never know when you may need it) there is no need to exchange anything for it and honestly by the sound of the poem I don’t think there would be anything you could swap for equal or greater value with this one. This is only a memento of the 101 uses cache and if you just want to sign the log and be on your way that is fine. The bonus hide is a more traditional hide and should not cause any problems in locating.
Best of luck I hope that you enjoy your search
