The construction work is finished. The cast iron door covering the silverbar with the waypoint is now again visible.The little photo-cannister is still in place in an obvoius place, opposite side of alley. December-March the alley may be full of ice and snow! NO PUBLIC WINTER MAINTENANCE OF THE ROAD! New strips of paper supplied March 11th 2010. The popularity of the cache fills the log more often than I can pass for maintenance.
MDCCCLXXXVIl Normaltid, rikstidningar, metersystem, modern valuta och postväsende med mera följde med den snabba utbyggnaden av järnvägarna under sista hälften av 1800-talet. För att kunna dra sträckningen på bästa sätt och kunna binda ihop städer och orter utan alltför stora stigningar behövdes exakt longitud och latitud samt nya och noggrannare höjdmätningar. Denna punkt bestämdes till 11,8 meter över Stockholms normalvattenstånd. Utgångspunkt för den första precisionsavvägningen. Med dåtidens optiska instrument och mestadels till fots lyckades man hålla medelavvikelsen så låg som 3 millimeter per mätt kilometer. Våra förfäder lade verligen hjärtat i arbetet.
EN. When railroads were built in rapid pace Sweden was given a new simpler coinage, modern postal system, a standard time(noon was at the same time from east to west), metrification and also a starting point for measuring levels over the sea. The builders needed to know the elevation wherever they were as well as correct N/S and E/W location. This place was the starting point and was pronounced 11.8 meters above the normal water level in Stockholm.
The average bias was as little as 3 millimeters per kilometer measured. This with the tools of these days! Our forefathers did really put their hearts into their work.

When you find the 'benchmark' SEARCH QUITE NEAR in a place NORMAL for GEOCACHERS to hide and find a magnetic micro. I have often found this micro REPLACED a few yards further away than originally placed. Please, do not make it more difficult for INEXPERIENCED beginners! Perhaps the first Swedish "Benchmark" Take a picture for your own use, if you are a benchmark-fan.
