Lund's Tower is one of the "Salt and Pepper pots" that dominate
the skyline above Cowling.
Lund Tower is believed to have been built
by James Lund of Malsis Hall but the reason is unclear. One
theory is that it was built for his daughter, another posits
Queen Victoria's jubilee. A spiral staircase gives access to
the top of the tower and a spectacular 360° view.
The easiest approach is probably from the parking area
indicated, heading towards Wainman's Pinnacle and then along the
well-marked path to the tower. This cache can also be incorporated
into the bracing circular walk from Cowling that is described in
The Walking
Englishman
This is a very popular place for picnicking families but there
are some very steep drops in this area. It was a beautiful sunny
day when we placed the cache but it will probably be raining when
you go! Make sure you assess the risks for yourself before
proceeding.
