Earl's Crag along with the "Salt and Pepper pots" dominates the
skyline above Cowling. The crag is a gritstone outcrop that has
been extensively quarried over the years.
The easiest approach is probably from the parking area indicated
but it can be incorporated into the bracing circular walk from
Cowling.
There is no need to climb down the rock face; walk towards
Lund's Tower and follow the wide track down the hillside to the
cache.
The original ammo box that Ess and Zed "won" in the quiz at the
North Yorkshire caching event in Harrogate in summer 2007 was
replaced by a clip-lock box in August 2009.
This is a very popular place for picnicking families but there
are some very steep drops in this area. It was a beautiful sunny
day when we placed the cache but it will probably be raining when
you go! Make sure you assess the risks for yourself before
proceeding.
