The Treasure Isles (Raoul Island, Kermadecs) Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

Michael: recieved at Groundspeak via email

The New Zealand Department of Conservation is the manager of Raoul Island which is part of the Kermadec Islands Nature Reserve. It has come to our attention that someone using the pseudonym “obblue” has established 2 caches on Raoul Island without lawful authority. Such an action is contrary to the law protecting Nature Reserves in New Zealand.

Access to this Island is prohibited without a permit from the Department of Conservation and these are closely managed to maintain a stringent biosecurity regime.

The island is also volcanically active and we are concerned that people may be injured while trying to locate these caches.

We ask that you remove these 2 geocaches from your website as soon as possible.

Geocache Description:

Ahhrgh, so ye be looking for adventure eh? Treasure hunter indeed! This be the domain of the Dread Pirate OBBLUE. Any who venture here shall surely perish before the faintest glimpse of Treasure reaches their eye. If ye be brave enough to land in these shark infested waters, then luck ye'll surely need, for the jungle feasts on men!
Enjoy NZ's most remote geocache...

The forest creeps with eyes and wing,
Some soar and others sing.
The birds of Raoul hath seen my face,
And know of every secret place.

A puzzle I have divided thrice,
And scattered round this Isle of Vice.
Each piece you find contains two lines,
But Pirates speak both truth and lies.

When you come upon these clues,
Beware that half each line's untrue.
Gather up this trinity,
And on your way you'll surely be…

As soon as my stash was laid, a treasure race the birds all played.
For each bird I have the time, the fastest one, the slowest nine.
The times you'll find are all in hours, (a function of flight and thinking powers).
With some careful application, they'll lead you to the cache location.
