The Old Shell Game v 2.0 Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

Krypton: As there's been no cache to find for months, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

Geocache Description:

Step right up, step right up! Keep yer eye on the pea an' win the prize, the hand is quicker than the eye!
This is a Geocaching adaptation of the old shell game where you move the shells and the player has to pick the one that has the “Pea” under it. The posted coordinates lead you to one “Shell”, but may or may not contain the “Pea”. Try your luck, or read on!

MUGGLES GALORE! MUGGLES GALORE! MUGGLES GALORE! MUGGLES GALORE! MUGGLES GALORE! MUGGLES GALORE!

I made this cache as a clone of one of my favorites by Faithwalker & DaMama several years back (click "User's Web Page" link above), with small changes to make it legal under the new guidelines.

HOW TO PLAY:

Finding this is much like other multi-caches except stage 1 is moved by YOU. To find this cache:

  1. Read the newest find log, it's a puzzle to find which "shell" is hiding stage 1 (the pea)
  2. Inside the pea you will find the final coordinates. Go get it!
  3. Choose any shell in the playfield and rehide the pea under it.
  4. Quickly log your find on Geocaching.com with a puzzle or clue leading the next geocacher to your hide. Your puzzles can be either of the following:
    • Nearby GPS coordinates for the “Shell”, or a puzzle to find them
    • Something specific about the “Shell” or what it's near, or
    • A series of clues and hints, like a letterbox.
    • The difficulty of your clues should be 2.5 stars.
  5. Tell me where you hid the pea. (Geocaching.com requires me to always know where my cache is. The green text at the bottom describes a sneaky way to tell me in your log entry in case you don't want to email.)

The Playfield:

Keep the “Pea” within the playfield outlined by these boundaries.
  • North boundary = N 38° 25.089'
  • West boundary = W 122° 42.800'
  • East boundary = W 122° 42.753'
  • South boundary = N 38° 25.012'
Here you have 21 “Shells” to hide the “Pea” under. It must always be hidden in one of the provided “Shells,” and only within the SAME KIND and SHAPE of “Shell” as you found it; you may not hide it in any other container or location in the playfield.

The Great Pea Hunt:

Solve the last puzzle, find the “Pea”, then hide it under a new “Shell.” There's a large area to choose from so it should be fairly easy to pick a “shell” that isn't too busy.

Finding the Final:

The final coordinates are inside the pea.
  • PLEASE DO NOT LOG THE COORDINATES HERE, even if it’s encrypted.
  • PLEASE DO NOT SHARE THE FINAL COORDINATES WITH OTHER PLAYERS, just like any multi-cache, this is bad juju!

Log your find with a clue:

Even if you DNF the final please log a note that you re-hid it and include your puzzle clue ASAP.

FAQ: What do I log if I...

  • Log a find (found it!) with a clue for the next cacher only if you've found & moved the “Pea”, told me where it is, AND logged the final.
  • The Shell Game is a solo venture, team logging will muck up the last-log puzzle feature of the game: Smiley's go for 1 find, 1 re-hide, 1 log clue, & 1 final log. Since a puzzle is required for each log all “Found it with...” entries will get zapped (What kind of clue is THAT after all?!).
  • Trouble finding the final, or you think it's missing? If you found the “Pea,” and did everything else, please quickly post a note (note) to help the next cacher, then we can work on the final for a smiley.
  • You're welcome to do trades, swag, and sign the logbook if you find it even with other cachers, you just need to come back later with a new hide and a clue before getting the smiley. Please log a note note note with your swaps, etc., but no clue.

THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURE IS REQUIRED BY GROUNDSPEAK AND WILL NOT HELP YOU FIND THIS CACHE:
MUGGLES GALORE! MUGGLES GALORE! MUGGLES GALORE! MUGGLES GALORE! MUGGLES GALORE! MUGGLES GALORE!
GROUNDSPEAK GUIDELINES STATE THAT NO NEW CACHE CAN REQUIRE AN EMAIL AS A LOGGING REQUIREMENT. IF YOU DO NOT WISH TO EMAIL ME, PLEASE USE THE PROCEDURE BELOW TO TELL WHERE YOU HID THE PEA. Peacode (use only if you don't email me your hide) Peacode is simply a way for you to secretly tell ME where you hid the pea instead of email. If you include your peacode in your log you do NOT need to email me.
On top of the pea you will find two words with 15 total letters. Since every shell has a number on it, for each numeral in your hide number just write whichever letter corresponds to that in the codewords. Example: pretend the codewords on the pea are "IM GRANDILOQUENT", and you stashed the pea under shell #52. Letters "5" and "2" of "IM GRANDILOQUENT" are "A" and "M", So, 52 = AM. Just include your letters at the end of your puzzle log. :)
Note: The 21 waypoints below are listed onacuzahafta and will not help you find the cache. So speaketh the reviewer community.
