Heacham has a long and varied history
The village has a link to the Native American princess Pocahontas who married the Englishman John Rolfe, who was born in Heacham. and who's father was vicar at St. Marys Church.
Today Pocahontas is still remembered by a memorial carving in the beautiful St Mary’s Church. born c 1595 died 1616 at Gravesend. where she is buried.
[hidden away in the Lady Chapel ].
Heacham is linked with Jamestown in Virginia, where the Powhatan Native Americans met with the settlers,of the Susan Constant .
This was 116' long,54 passengers and 17 crew,
Godspeed only 88'and with 39 passengers and 13 crew,
the Discovery at 49'which held 32 passengers and 9 crew.
how they ever made the trip after seeing the replicas in James Town was a miracle.
For a real sensory treat, take a trip to Norfolk Lavender at Heacham, England’s premier lavender farm.
