Geocache Description:

You will have a chance to meet my family at this cache.

You heard about my Great-Grandfather, Fitz Hugh Williams in my cache "Is it Bassinger or Basinger" and how he drove herds of cattle to Punta Gorda to sell to Spanish Cuba. The practice ended with the Spanish American war but cattle drives were still a part of my family's culture for many more years to come.

In 1937 my grandfather, Zibe King Williams drove a large herd of cattle from our place at Brighton all the way to Allapatta Flats near Indiantown. My Uncle Haynes was 9 years old and put in to go along. He had a his own pony and figured he was just as much a 'Cow-poke' as the ranch hands were. In the end he was allowed to go, but my father who was only 6 had to stay home. Haynes still tells of how he cried every night along the way but he 'Cowboyed Up' and stuck it out. My father was able to make several of these drives later on and had many tales about them.

At the site of this cache you will be able to meet my Uncle Haynes as well as Grandpa Zibe and Great Grandpa Fitz. Grandpa will be on the left riding a gray/white horse and wearing a dark hat. Uncle Haynes is seated on the paint colored pony and Great Grandpa is around the corner smoking his pipe.

My family still has cattle but since the advent of cowtrucks and trailers, cattle drives are sadly a thing of the past.

The GPS system was pretty crazy the day this was placed so I don't know how close the cords are, but they will get you there. The cache is a micro and is breast high to a normal sized person. It is not nearly as dangerous as it may appear. Be sure the container is hidden well before you leave. BYOP
