If I missed anyone, by all means let me know.

There have been many caches placed in cemeteries. The Indiana Spirit Quest is a fantastic series that emphasizes the historic nature of our cemeteries and takes a very reverent approach to our sharing of these public sites.

This will be a two-day CITO, and will be posted as two separate CITO events. We are lucky to have the Hendricks County coordinator for the restoration of pioneer cemeteries joining us. She will be teaching the proper techniques for cleaning headstones, resetting fallen stones and otherwise restoring old cemeteries. The schedule will call for work to be done from 9-3 on Saturday and Sunday. There will be work available for those of various ages and physical conditions. There will be heavy lifting when we right larger stack stones than have fallen. There will be plenty of opportunity to dig holes as we place new footers to reset slab headstones. There will also be lots of cleaning of stones, which will be the least strenuous of the work. Shovels will be handy, but what we will need the most of will be water. Corrosive agents are not used to clean fragile stone, so most cleaning will be with soft bristle brushes and water.

Jess, our leader will show us the techniques. So come with lots of gallon jugs filled with water, including some to drink. I'm really counting on the caching community to come through here. This is a tremendous opportunity to pay back some of the enjoyment we having gotten finding caches in cemeteries, and to show cemeteries are more than just a place to hide a cache. Certainly you don't have to be there for the entire day or for both days, but please come and help if you can.

The Prebster Cemetery is also the location of an Indiana Spirit Quest cache, ISQ #176, My Bleeding Legs (GCNHEZ). Parking may be a bit of a challenge, depending on the turnout, but there is off-road parking near the cemetery and there is a pumping station south of US 136 we can use. When Rupert2 posted his cache listing for the ISQ cache, he noted this cemetery was on the Indiana DOR Hall of Shame for the abhorrent condition of the cemetery. Boy Scouts have cleared much of the brush, so it is up to us to complete the task. The table is set. Geocachers, let's show the restoration community what we can do.
