Geocache Description:

wading in the spring and rock hopping in the summer will br required. Swimming in the pool below the second falls is at its best, but the water is cold. You will need to bring your own pencil to log in. GPS reception is poor at its best so be informed that it is located directly across the creek from the falls.

For those of you that have not had the experience of seeing this beautiful glen and its two water falls, you are in for a treat. It is just a short hike on a well used trail along the winding Grimes Creek. In the spring it may include a wet foot or two, but in the summer it is a matter of hopping from rock to rock to cross the ever flowing coolness of the stream. On a hot summer day you will find many bathers in the pool beneath the second falls, which is 63 feet high, about .15 beyond the cache site. So be sure to venture to this most beautiful falls and pool. There is a third falls, and some say there is a forth, but it takes more climbing experience than I have to search them out. The cache is meant to be an easy find, but hidden good enough to be out of sight of non-cachers. This is sure to be a hit with kids of all ages, but if you have young ones, don’t leave them home. They will love it!!!!!!!! This is a popular creekwalk route. Trails run along the sides of the creek in segments, interrupted by the cliffs. You may find it easier to alternate walking on land and in the water. The water in this creek is higher than most in summer. In Aug. I waded through a foot deep water in spots. In 1972 Hurricane Agnes wrecked havoc in Grimes Glen, as it did throughout the region, wiping out trails and bridges. Grimes Glen made history in 1982 with the discovery of a 390 million year old fossilized tree. It is now on display in the State Education Building in Albany. • From the parking area, hike past the gate. • You can cross the creek on the bridge and follow the trail a short distance or begin the creekwalk right away, heading upstream. (Below the bridge is a 3-foot cascade.) • Reach the cache and the first large waterfall at 0.4 mile. Here a tributary coming into Grimes Glen from the left side plummets in a steep cascade, 60-feet-high and 15-feet-wide. If you proceed beyond the cache site you will enjoy 2-footers and a 3-footers as you continue upstream. • At 0.6 mile reach the final fall. Set at a 45 degree angle in the channel, this 60-foot fall funnels through a narrow channel then gushes out midway down. It's set in a deep amphitheater with a pool at the base and a cave in the far wall.
