Geocache Description:

This hybrid cache in an ammo box is located near the trail head that descends 4 miles down into Fossil Creek canyon. It provides some nice views of the topography of the area without actually hiking down the trail. Accessible 24/7 x 365 except, perhaps, during a rare snowfall. The link will take you to information about Fossil Creek. http://www.activearizona.com/Article/2.aspx

From downtown Strawberry, take Fossil Creek Road about 4 miles until you come to the trail head located on a side road going off to the right. The last 2 miles are unpaved but suitable for any vehicle. From the parking area proceed .14 miles down the road until you come to a “road” (actually 2 tracks) going off to the left. About 50 paces up that road head to your first landmark at 34*24.485 and 111*34.302. This will be on the south side of an old juniper tree and a dim but discernible game trail starts that will lead you around the base of the rocky promontory. The start of the trail is marked by a pair of trail ducks. After you get to the north side of the rocks, let your GPSr be your guide. Because the southern sky is blocked when close to the rocky face, I established the coordinates a few feet north of the actual cache but if you get that close, its location should be obvious. This is a Letterbox Hybrid geocache. It functions just like any other geocache and has exchange items and a log. Signing the geocache log is all that is required to claim full credit for the find. The cache also contains the paraphernalia for Letterboxing, which entails exchanging rubber stamp images instead of exchange items. Participating in this aspect of a hybrid geocache is purely voluntary. Letterboxing activity requires that the letterbox contain a rubber stamp and something to accept the impression of rubber stamps. The finder also needs to have a personal rubber stamp, an ink pad and something in which to record stamp images. The finder thus develops a collection of impressions from the stamps in the various letterboxes found and each letterbox develops a collection of impressions from the finders. The stamps can be hand made or commercial. If you have the items you need for Letterbox Hybrids, you also have the items needed to participate in finding free standing Letterboxes.
