This is an old fashioned geocache in the middle of the woods in Westmoreland State Park. It is off the trails in a location that would be considered advanced by orienteering standards. Plenty of championship level orienteers have gotten misplaced in this part of Westmoreland.
The park staff welcomes geocaching. Please thank them by obeying the park rules (parking in designated spaces only, pay honor parking, no littering, etc.). You have to pay honor parking, even if you use the lot just inside the contact station.
UPDATE DEC '25 - As far as approaches go, there are several ways to go about this one. The parking lot just inside the contact station is the shortest route, but I've found a little bit more deadfall and water going that way. Going from my original cache near Campground C is possible, but the swamps have gotten a bit rougher there than in the past. The new Fox Run Trail shortens the bushwhack and offers a dryer area to cross the streams, but the stream crossings are not the easiest.
Either way, please keep in mind that this cache is a little bit rougher than average. Allow plenty of time and make sure you've got fresh batteries. Mark your car as a waypoint. You might even consider an old fashioned compass in case the batteries die (safety bearing is north to park trails and/or west to park road). Have a safe and fun hike.
