Geocache Description:

Coordinates are for the parking on Steele Rd. in New Hartford. There is a real feeling of "the way things were" walking around here. Following the red blazed loop will take you near 2 miles round trip. During hunting season, wear bright colors, as it is well posted that this area borders a private shooting area. The things that stood out for me were the stone water control system and the stone bridge over the creek. The lookout is very nice as well.

The 166-acre Jones Mountain parcel is covered with rugged mature forest interspersed with meadows and intermittent streams. The property is traversed by existing hiking trails and a beautifully maintained and historic carriage road, lined by old stone walls and culverts built by Irish stonemasons of generations past. The carriage road encircles the summit of Jones Mountain, and provides access to the “bare spot” with spectacular views of the downtown village, Farmington River Valley, and surrounding forests. Make your way up to the overlook - on the rock by the chair there is a name and other things chiseled into the rock - look for a number - i couldn't make out the entire thing, so i wasn't sure if it was a year or not. If it is 4 digits it might be a year, if it's 3 it could be the elevation (it is close) either way - take the 3 obvious digits (hint: the 1st and 3rd are the same) and work them into this equation for the coordinates for the final location. N 41 53.161 - (.xxx) W072 57.757 + (.xxx) (your results will need you to add or subtract WHOLE numbers) Final is a small container with room for small trade items.
