Geocache Description:

The Acropolis (citadel) of Kavala was constructed in the first quarter of the 15th century. It was built on the remains of the Byzantine acropolis of Christoupolis (former name of Kavala),which was destroyed in 1932, and incorporated parts that survived from it.It was built mainly with local stone, mixed with bricks and marble. The Acropolis is divided into an inner and an outer enceinte through a traverse wall.In the outer enceinte there are two square towers,at the NE and NW corner,a polygonal tower at the East corner and a bastion at the SE corner. The inner enceinte was the most important part as it enclosed the vital facilities for the defence of the citadel. All walls and towers are crowned with battlements. In the outer enceinte there are located an open theatre and a cafeteria for the visitors.

THE CACHE :
