In Loving Memory of Philip Charles Allen
We lost our brother Philip due to the carelessness of a drunk driver on August 2, 2006. His nephew, Nick, was in the midst of his Eagle Scout project and was getting assistance from Phil at the time of his tragic death. This cache is placed near the product of the Eagle Scout project (taken from the Eagle Court of Honor program): "...a 40' x 40' brick and limestone wall enclosure for the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church parish community vegetable garden. The garden, located at the back of the church property, required over 43 hours of planning time, eight different work days, and a total of more than 557 volunteer hours to complete." "The garden will serve as a place where parishioners can strengthen their community by working together on a common project, enjoy the vegetables that are harvested, and share the produce with local area food banks." There is a plaque on the southwest corner of the garden wall that dedicates the garden to Philip. We think the garden was a wonderful project for Nick to earn his Eagle Scout rank and the dedication of it is a beautiful way to express the love he felt for his uncle Phil. Feel free to view the garden -- the fence around it is just for keeping the deer out. The cache is placed with permission of the Church Administrator on church property. Please be respectful of your surroundings and park in the parking lot -- its approximately 400 feet from parking to cache. Originally, the cache is the first to launch a True Texas Cowboy coin designed in memory of Phil releasing it into the wild so that the cowboy can roam. Please move the coin along if you are the one to retrieve it. Other contents include a flashlight, air pressure gauges, a shoulder pack, a water gun, a book of Promises, a sudoku deck and various Texas themed items.
