The Lake District is home to some fascinating wildlife - deer, badgers, foxes, red squirrels, hares and birds of prey, just to mention a few creatures that can regularly be spotted (at the right time and place). Geocaching often takes us to out of the way places where the real treasure is discovering the natural world, even the creepy crawlies under the stones (which we then carefully replace!). All the items originally placed in the cache were purchased from wildlife/countryside charities, to help in the conservation of wildlife and habitats in this country and abroad.
The simplest approach to this cache is to follow the path from the Aira Force car park (National Trust, pay and display) on A592. Take the path that leads to Green Hill, past the memorial seat, and follow it round the contours of the hill. When you come to a ladder stile over a wall, DON'T cross the stile, but veer left onto a path that roughly follows the line of the wall. After reaching some squelchy peat bog, the summit becomes visible up to your left. You can visit the trig point, but the cache is at a lower level - keep an eye open if you have children with you because there are some craggy bits they could fall down if you're approaching the cache from the summit.
The cache is a large plastic box containing, at the time of placing, log book, pencil and sharpener, Lemur notebook (suitable for a cache log book!), Lemur magnet, dog breed playing cards, sheep ornament, bookmark, heron pin-badge and orang utan puzzle.
To avoid frustration, TAKE THE SPOILER PIC WITH YOU :-)
