Geocache Description:

Located inside Cabin Lake County Park. The park has one entrance from Highway 111 -- about 5 miles north of Beulaville. Good walking shoes and bug spray are recommended. Pretty good hike through the woods and around the lake, but on a defined trail.

On The Andy Griffith Show, Andy Taylor and his son, Opie quite frequently enjoyed hiking, camping, and fishing at Myer's Lake. So this cache is hidden in Duplin County's answer to their favorite spot ... Cabin Lake!

As you visit the park you will find that there is a hiking trail which circles all around the lake. With your GPS, you may find that it has you going straight across the lake or through a large section of woods. You will need to remain on the trail, however, until you are close to the cache. You'll know you're close, of course, from your GPS, but you will also need to look for a large fallen pine tree. You can see this tree easily from the trail. The cache is close to the tree and is about 50 feet off the trail in a fairly clear area.

The cache is in a medium-sized lock-and-lock box and has a logbook with small trade items. Please be aware of muggles and replace exactly as found.

** There is an admission fee to the park. It costs $3.00 per person ... children 5 and under are free. This cache has been placed with the permission of Duplin County Parks and Recreation. They asked that we post the hours of operation for the park and emphasize that cachers only search during these hours. Park hours are as follow:

March - October -- Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 8:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.

April - September -- same days, but does not close until 8:00 p.m.

November - February -- Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.

** Also open on Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day!!

While searching, take time to enjoy the park ... you will find that there are RV and tent campsites, picnic shelters, a playground, a 'beach' area, and canoe and paddle boat rentals. You can find out more at (visit link)

At this time, there is also one other cache in the park, so while you're here don't forget to search for it, too! If you plan on searching for both Caches... please allow approximately 45 mins. to 1 hour.
