Geocache Description:

Wilson Creek drops 125 feet forming Twin Falls Lake, then tumbles another 400 feet from the outlet. The trail system on this state-owned land was built by the Department of Natural Resources.

Elevation Gain: 1300 ft
Time (RT): 4.5 hours
Distance (RT): ~8.75 miles (to Twin Falls Lake)
Difficulty: Easy to Ashland Lakes, tricky to Twin Falls Lake

A pretty lake with a view of a pretty waterfall at the inlet. The eight mile RT hike is mostly on boardwalks and is fairly easy (if the boardwalks are dry, that is) until you're past Lower Ashland lake. After the first three lakes the terrain has a downhill stretch that our group found to be the most fun. Boardwalks aren't typically our style so it was nice to finally get back to a real "trail" with roots and steps, and lots of twists and turns.

Please be cautious once you're past Lower Ashland, the trail is quite steep and narrow, and the trailside shrubbery lends to a false sense of security. Just be cautious, like I said. The terrain is a probably pretty close to a 3* until you get past Lower Ashland Lake - then we've upped it to 4* to account for the extra caution required.

At the lake you'll find a couple of nice resting spots. We chose one and ate lunch here, enjoying the waterfall. While the rest of us were eating Gordy tended to business and found a great hiding spot just perfect for the 30cal ammo can he had carried up (and then down)the twisty trail.

Apparently, if you go across the bridge and past Twin Falls Lake you'll find a few comfy campsites. We didn't go there, but from what we've read there are nice views to be had. Check it out.

After lunch we played around in the lower falls, having a most delightful adventure. Avoiding the wet part of the rocks was no problem at all this late in the season and our gang had a blast playing in the water. Some brave folks ran under the outlet falls while a few others only dipped our heads in the ice cold water. We all took tons of pictures and proclaimed that right there to be our favorite spot we've found this year. Each of us vowing to come back and do it again, agreeing that the "secret" falls was our favorite of the twins.
