In 1873 the first settlers named the area Grass Valley. later surveyors called the place Coyote Creek.
Later a schoolhouse was built and a ward was organized.
In 1920 the name was changed to Antimony after the antimony mines, east of the valley.
Antimony rests in the north end of Garfield county, however the children are bused to Piute county where they attend school.
