Geocache Description:

Howell Park is the green triangle of open land bordered by Hartzell Street, McDaniel Avenue, and Stewart Avenue. It was purchased by the City of Evanston in 1919 and named in honor of Maynard D. Howell, who lived up the street. He was the president of the North End Improvement Association and active in civic interests.

His obituary from the December 12, 1919 Chicago Tribune:
Montgomery Ward & Co.'s Export Manager Dies
Maynard D. Howell, export manager for Montgomery Ward & Co. and an authority on parcels post, died of heart disease on the steamer Empress of Russia Tuesday while en route from Vancouver to Yokohama. He was on his way to China and the Philippines to make a five months trade survey for his firm.
The wireless which brought the news says the steamer will reach Yokohama on Monday and the body will be brought back by Mrs. Howell. Mr. Howell was 54 years old. He has been employed by Montgomery Ward & Co. twenty years. He is survived by the widow and four children. He was a member of the Hamilton club, the permanent group committee for Cuba, chairman of the committee on international parcel post, and active in civic work in Evanston, where he resided at 2513 Park Place.

There is not much in this park. While it is officially known as Howell Park, it is frequently referred to by the locals as Squirrel Park, Dog Park, or Triangle Park. There used to be a house on the north end, but that was forty years ago. The driveway led in right from the alley and if your eyes are sharp you can still see part of a curbstone in the grass near the path. There used to be more benches, and the gravel path was maintained a little better, but there was never much to do here. It is a good spot to play ball when it isn’t flooded, but mostly it is just a gathering spot for neighborhood dogs and their owners. Now there is a cache here too. Bring your dog, everyone does. Just don’t tell anyone about the cache!
