This is a County Forest with level trails, easy walking or riding for all ages and families
The Hendrie Area was first surveyed by James G. Chewett, Public Lands Surveyer, in 1820. By then the area had been abandoned by the Agricultural Huron Tribes for 170
years . Much of the Forest was cut off this property more than 100 years ago leaving large stumps some of which have the outer shell still visible throughout the forest.
Following the Survey of the Hendrie Area in 1820 Crown land Grants of Ownership were issued. Some of the Grants were as follows.
1834 - East Half Lot 1, Mary Darbridge
1838 - East Half Lot 2, James Connally
1846 - East Half Lot 5, Canada Company
1866 - West Half Lot 1, John Stratley
1868 - East Half Lot 4, Columbus Greene
Once a Crown Land Grant had been aquired it was common for .
Sales of Timber on the land to follow.. By 1878 there were 2 sawmills in the vicinity of the Hendrie Tract, and about 155 other Sawmills both steam powered and water powered in
Simcoe County. In 1881 after a long drought a series of fires occurred in the Hendrie area destroying a nearby sawmill.
Thanks to all that has gone on before us we now have a number of beautiful County Forests to enjoy and an excellent place for we Geocacher’s.
