Geocache Description:

This cache has coordinates to a rock formation that looks like Crazy Horse on Hwy 87 near Sylvan Lake. The true Crazy Horse is located on Hwy 385 between Hill City and Custer. There is a parking area across the road from the cache. The walk is a short distance.

After finding many fun and challenging caches in the area I discovered this interesting, large rock formation. It continues to remind me of Crazy Horse without any carvings. This is a memorial that my dad had enjoyed visiting every year.

To those not familiar with the Black Hills, Crazy Horse was dedicated on June 3, 1948 with sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski and Lakota Chief Henry Standing Bear. Crazy Horse was choosen because he was a great and patriotic hero. The mission of Crazy Horse is to honor the culture, tradition and living heritage of the North America Indians. Ziolkowski dedicated the rest of his life from that day forward to working on the mountain. He died October 20, 1982. However, his wife Ruth and some of their 10 children and grandchildren continue in the progress of Crazy Horse. To sum it up Henry Standing Bear said in 1939, "My fellow chiefs and I would like the white man to know that the red man has great heros, too."

At the cache area you will be able to see the rock formation that I call Little Crazy Horse. Be careful and enjoy the view! As always hide the cache well after finding it. I've hidden a larger round lock and lock container. Have fun caching!
