Follow the black lake rd off hwy 14 near Elmsdale about 2 miles in. Maybe passable in car but I would suggest Suv or offroad truck....subaru could do it.
On April 29, 1862 the provincial goverment officially proclaimed Renfrew a Gold District. Where's Renfrew you ask? well it's not there anymore in is one of Nova Scotia's Ghost towns.
At it's height the population of Renfrew was 700 citizens and over 5 years $20 million dollars in today's money was extracted from the ground.
The old extraction method was very wasteful and there is estmaited to be thousands of ounces of gold still hidden in the hundreds of mounds of minestone scattered thoughout Renfrew.... On my adventure in the area I found a chunk of quartz with gold in it, so good luck in your hunting.
Be careful cause there are some pits in the area.
