The site of Willen
Mill is now under the waters of the northern
Willen Lake. A mill was recorded here in the 1086 Domesday
book and it appears that a mill has been recorded on this
site over the subsequent centuries.
Willen lake was excavated in the 1970's as part of the new
city's water management program. It's construction has allowed the
development of a number of facilities. Where the southern lake lake
concentrates on leisure both on and off the lake, the northern
lakes offers quiet contemplation and reflection. The lake is
overlooked by the first Peace Pagoda built in the western
hemisphere and Willen Hospice.
