Geocache Description:

Altitude: 1462

The Wallin series of caches commemorates the generous contribution that led to The Wallin Nature Trails, off The Skyline Trail, at Great Bear, near Sioux Falls, South Dakota. I have known the Wallins for several years, and I used to work with Doris, A/K/A Dori. Dori still volunteers, at least two days a week, and, the princess & I see her often/frequently.
A few weeks ago, while going through pictures, for the princess' award-winning 4-H project, I looked at the picture that I took near The Skyline cache, and noticed that, on the marker, there is a sign that mentions the Ralph and Doris Wallin Nature Trails. I hadn't "connected the dots," before, but it suddenly struck me that we knew them. We had the picture blown-up, into a 11 x 14" poster, and gave it to Dori. She thanked us, and said that she appreciated what we did. We thanked her for their contribution. Considering their recent health, and the upcoming geoevent, we decided that we should do some caches, for them. So, these are for Dori & Ralph: thank you for your generousity, and we pray for your health.
A great deal of the difficulty for these caches is due to the terrain: you must get to the top of Great Bear (there are several routes). Regardless of the route you choose, this cache is not for the faint-of-heart, and if you are not up to a somewhat strenuous hour long workout, please do not attempt this cache. This cache ended-up being very difficult to reach, from the west (uphill, & very loose sand), and it is no picnic from any other direction, either. It has the potential of being very dangerous terrain, so if you have any reservations, please don't attempt this cache. It is a very easy find, but the terrain could be extremely dangerous, so proceed with great care: I don't want to see anyone get hurt trying to pursue this cache--I may have to move it, because of its location. I have no intention of allowing the princess to go to it, so proceed with great caution !!!
This cache was intended to be a "specialty cache," that is, its function is limited to published material (hard cover books won't fit through the opening of the cache), and, oversized swag (that wouldn't fit in Wallin Two Wallin). There is a FTF pin, a log, and, writing utensils (although it's always a good idea to bring your own). Once again, I want to warn you: this cache could be very strenuous and/or dangerous, so proceed accordingly. Depending on the log entrys, I may move it, somewhere safer/more accessible, so let me know. It may not be very winter friendly, but should be very easy to spot, since there is very little guile involved in its location, other than the terrain.
