Margaret Peak, also known as Mount Margaret, is half a mile west of
U.S. Highway 277 near the community of Tennyson in southeastern
Coke County. The peak has an elevation of 2,282 feet above sea
level and rises 1,860 feet above the surrounding terrain. It is
said to have been named for Margaret Beaumont, the wife of Capt.
Eugene B. Beaumont, who served with the Fourth Cavalry in the area
in the early 1870s. At the foot of Mt. Margaret is the Community
Center which is still in use. Easter sunrise services are held at
Mt. Margaret and an annual homecoming at the center.
