Geocache Description:

This cache has been placed on Forestry grounds at Scare Woods on the A944 near Tillyfourie.

This walk initially sets off on really good track, but at the first waypoint is does degenerate a little. You could always take a track that is on your right before the waypoint and go that way to the second waypoint.

I’ve placed this where you’ll get a great view of Tillycairn [the little hill of the thickets] Castle. At the time of placing this cache it is currently on the market for a cool offer over £825,000!!!

Tillycairn is a 16th Century, 5 storey tower house of stone construction. It has a harled Craigievar pink exterior under a slate roof. The castle was built in 1550 [although the earliest records mention it in 1444] and was a derelict ruin for over 200 years until 1980. Tillycairn has been carefully restored retaining the character and architectural integrity of the original structure with rounded corners, circular staircase tower and corbelled cylindrical turrets, whilst incorporating the necessary facilities required for comfortable modern day living.

Although I have waymarked 2 points, there is more than one way to get to waypoint 2, this little path basically follows the fence/wall line to the cache. I leave it up to you arrow followers to make up your own mind [you know who you are!!] There is quite a bit of tree cover at first, but the cache has been placed in the open.

There is parking available just off the A944 that is at the start of the track.

Waypoint 1 N57 12.004 W002 33.444 track up hill, has a couple of trees over ½ way up.

Waypoint 2 N57 11. 850 W002 33.620 Point of little track up towards boundary wall.

This cache has been placed on Forestry land, thanks again to Liz Wallace for permission granted.
