A short walk less than half a mile, from your car round a pond to a traditional cache, on tarmac paths.
A hidden gem in a built up area that my partner didn’t know was here and she had lived in the area for over ten years with two dogs! I discovered it dog walking following my ‘nose’.
Saintbridge balancing pond and its surrounding landscape covers an area of approximately 3.5ha. The balancing pond holds excess water from the Sud Brook and a diverted arm of the River Twyver and is necessary to prevent flooding downstream as a result of increased surface run off caused by developments in the area.
Despite its relatively short life, Saintbridge balancing pond has already been designated as a site of nature conservation interest by Gloucester City council.
There are many ways to the pond & cache and I have suggested just one of the many places you could park but this seems a good safe spot, should not cause a problem to local people and is directly off a “main” road in a side street. Please park responsibly and not block driveways or close to junctions. The path to the pond starts between houses on the bend of Skylark Way.
This is suitable for children as long as they are supervised due to the pond and with tarmac paths round the pond, wheel chairs and buggies should have no problem but wheel chair cachers may need help to grab the cache. There are also many dog bins around, so a nice walk for your dog. There is a large field at the other end of the pond if your dog enjoys a good run. This field can be flooded during wet weather, as it was during the bad floods recently as it is part of the local flood defences.
You are looking for a 35mm cache, so please bring a pen. Stealth with be required as there are many dog walkers and people passing through. There are also houses nearby but you are a distance away from them, so hopefully no one inside will be watching.
