Geocache Description:

Micro at park on the island

Micro cache hidden at Harry Gowens Memorial Park

Harry Gowens is often refered to as the father of Pensacola Beach. He was the original developer of much of the eastern half of Pensacola Beach, and in 1978 started the first Pensacola Beach Elementary School by leasing his home to Escambia County for $1 per year. In 1980, Harry was crowned the first King of the Krewe of Wrecks. He later served on the Santa Rosa Island Authority from 1992-1995.

Harry is the only recipient of the "Spirit of Pensacola Beach" award and was named the Beach Bum of the Millennium in the year 2000. He passed away in January 2006 and this park was dedicated to him in August of 2007.

This cache is a replacement for Playin' in da sand by The Lil Otter.

Her's was the first geocache I ever found, and I found it without the aid of a GPS.
