Rusty Rails: The Rusty Rail Multi-Cache
Rusty Rails: The Rusty Rail
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
The cache is not at the posted co-ordinates. This is the starting point for this quick 2 stage multi. Both stages are micros, and the final location will require a writing implement as it contains log book only.
At the first Waypoint, you will find co-ordinates to the final location. Between the first and final waypoints, if you look to your left you will see a rise in the paddock. This is what remains of the old Wandilo to Glencoe railway line. In 1879, a railway was built between Beachport, Millicent and Mount Gambier, with a branch line from Wandilo to Glencoe. This line was built as a means of transporting Potatoes out of the area. This is what you can see now.
Near the final waypoint is the terminus of the Old Line where the 'Rusty Rail' used to be. The Rusty Rail sold goods to the locals and up until a few years ago, still used to provide the locals with takeaway. Near the final location you will also see some old railway carriages and the old turntable is still visible.
Information for this cache was gathered from locals, so I hope that it is accurate. More information on the Wandilo line can be found at the Leake Brothers Woolshed in Glencoe if you are interested. I hope you enjoy the cache!
