Geocache Description:

Hrad Filakovo

Filakovo castle

Filakovo hrad

Veza Bebek

V rokoch 1554-1593 hrad okupovali Turci. Odtial viedli výpady až po Rožnavu a polské hranice. Roku 1593 královské vojská dobyli hrad a prevzali moc.

Bebek tower

Filakovo castle is built on a 65m high basalt rock of volcanic origin. It was first mentioned in 1242 and in 1246 when Bela IV owned it. Later the castle belonged to Matus Cak and in 1543 to Frantisek Bebek. He built the tower, which is now named "Bebek" after him. From 1493 to 1554 Turks occupied the castle. They started attacks, which extended from this base through the country up to the Polish border. The king's armies recaptured both the castle and the town in 1593.

It days of glory were in the 17th century, when the town reached a high state of development. The name of the town was associated with national events.

In 1682 the army of Imrich Tokoly, with the help of the Turks captured and ruined the castle. The fate of Filakovo had been determined for the coming centuries. It no longer played a part of National importance.

Delo na nadvori Dolny hrad

From the top of castle there is a spectacular view of the town and in good weather the ruins of the distant Somoska castle can also been seen.
