Geocache Description:

A small plastic container, next to a barn with fascinating graffiti, in a part of the isle of wight with lovely walking possibilities.

This cache can be reached from the road just about. You will not need to rummage around the barn itself, and please do not do so. YOU DO NOT NEED TO GO ONTO PRIVATE PROPERTY. The owner is aware of the location of the cache, and does not bite (but his doberman might not be so friendly).

The chalk walls of the early 18th century barn have many scratched images of ships of all shapes and sizes, on the wall facing the road, and the north facing wall that you can see from the road. These walls have the best of the ships. In fact the owner explained that the graffiti on the other walls has pretty much been eroded off so again NO NEED to go onto his private property to look for anything better.

There are great walks in the vicinity, on the Downs, and through the copses. Buses pass (#7) regularly within 1/2 mile. We were led to this by Jack Jones's book Isle of Wight Curiosities, available from the local tourist offices. If you have time make sure you walk up to the Coombe farm and beyond for some fantastic views or the other direction to Longstone

.
