A stroll through the woods up to an interesting landmark, near
Kinloch Rannoch
This cache was placed by an extended team, the usual 4 suspects,
plus ma & pa kettle and the incredible uncle, who apparently
has a secret cachers identity.
To start off for this cache you need to park just off the road at
Lassintulloch Woods and stroll up the road to the private road at
Bridge Cottage. Although it is marked as Crossmount on our map.
This is a private road for pedestrians and authorised vehicles
only. There is no parking at the other end of it, so please respect
the owners wishes and leave your car elsewhere and stroll down.
Following the track, you'll walk along side Dunalastair water and
when you come to the last house at the end of the road, follow the
path up the hill. It is a lovely little road with a couple of
amazing houses tucked away. There are loads of conker trees and the
boys spent ages collecting them.
The path is fairly gentle most of the way with the only difficult
part being when you need to cross a stream on stepping stones,
hence the terrain rating.
We think the cave is linked to Rob Roy McGregor and his nearby
McGregor’s leap. This is a lovely little spot, well worth the
stroll and a fairly easy climb up. The cave has been 'modernised'
by the Victorians, similarly to the Hermits cave across in Kenmore.
It is still definitely worth a look.
There is an unofficial viewpoint right across from the cave, with
the views opening up to Dunalastair Water and Tummel Water and
right down the valley in both directions. A lovely little spot for
picnics and photo opportunities. The cache is only a few minutes
walk from the cave.
