jmbillings: Unfortunately, this one has gone. A lot of the rocks have been removed, including the one it was previously hiding under.

I'm going to archive it as there aren't many hiding places left there now, and it's possible the rest of them would get shifted on too. We'll think of another location on the line to hide another cache!

If you need the number from this one to complete the series to do the bonus, get in touch with the numbers from the other two caches at Elton and Barnwell.

Geocache Description:

A walk from Fotheringhay to the disused Nene Valley railway line

Derailed Nene Valley is a series of caches placed on or near the path of the now disused Nene Valley railway. There will eventually be 3 caches to find, and each one will contain a number. You will need this number for the fourth "bonus" cache!

The Nene Valley railway was closed in May 1964, although part of the line is still in service between Peterborough and Wansford with the Nene Valley steam railway. The rest of the line, although disused and lacking any tracks is able to be seen clearly for quite a way southwest of Wansford. For more information, check out Subterrania Britannica where you can see pictures of the various stations then and now.

This cache, the Fotheringhay one is located on the path of the railway line itself. You are probably best off parking in the village and then heading to the cache (around a 0.75 mile walk) although you could tackle it from the other direction if you are following the Nene Way. The cache is a standard tupperware container. Look out for muggles as you're close to an official footpath! The GPS accuracy at "planting" time was good, but if you do find it off by any decent amount, mail me you're co-ordinates and I'll average out.

If you haven't already, you might first want to do "Off with her head!" (GC1181E) by Cassies' Crusaders as it's nearby!
