Geocache Description:

.Dupage FPD Website
The Non-Native Series introduces the cacher to some of the non-native or invasive plants found in the DuPage County Forest Preserves

"Tangled" will take the cacher deep into one of the DuPage County Forest Preserves to experience the effects of Common Buckthorn. Buckthorn or Rhamnus cathartica gets its name from the branches that end at a point resembling a thorn. Buckthorn produces shiny black berries which causes the shrubby tree to spread uncontrollably. The tree then shades out the woods crowding out the native trees and plants. As you hike through this dense stand, you will see the effects of buckthorn with the barren forest floor. Management for this invasive species includes clearing, stump herbiciding, and prescribed fire.

Keep a keen eye out for Poison Ivy. There can be a lot of mosquitoes as well.
