Metamorphosis is one of over 30 caches along the Outback Way-finder Trail - the longest Geocache Trail in the world.
G'day Geocachers,
Metamorphosis cache is located near the junction of the Stuart Highway (north-south) and the Lasseter Highway (east-west) within sight of the Roadhouse. It is within the road reserve adjacent to Erldunda Station. The Stuart Highway, known as The Track, roughly follows the alignment of the original Telegraph Line for 2800k. The Track once fully sealed in the middle 1980s transformed a linear sea of corrugated sand into a national highway supporting tourism, mining and the pastural industry.
Note the signs of life and death around the cache. Life wasn't 'meant to be easy' in the outback - drought, fire, disease and feral plants and animals make life difficult in the Finke bio-region of Australia. But death becomes life through natural systems of metamorphosis.
Activity: Get on your hands and knees and note seeds waiting for the right conditions of sprout, look for signs of new life, look around and under dead plants for signs of animal activity. Life and death live together.
