Geocache Description:

Breakaway Pinnacle is one of over 30 caches along the Outback Way-finder Trail - the longest Geocache Trail in the world. NOTE: "Arrangements have been made for maintenance to be undertaken by July, 2023".

G'day Geocachers, Breakaway Pinnacle cache is located in the northern sector of the Jamieson Range, a lateritic uplift between two great desert bioregions of Australia - the Great Victoria to the south and the Gibson to the north. The local Aboriginal people call this area Yarla Kutjarra. They welcome visitors to the nearby day use area with shelter, water and toilet. Breakaways are highly prized by road engineers as lateritic gravel makes great roadbase. Construction and maintenance of roads in the Outback is a major issue for local Shire officers - costs are high, road building materials are scarce and weather conditions unpredictable. Breakaways are also great places to hide caches and get wonderful views. Use care as this requires a rocky scramble - but it's not too difficult. Activity: Visit one of the many gravel quarries along the Outback Way - look at the quality of gravel, the size of each pebble, whether clean or mixed with sand/clay - note that there are long stretches without any quarries too - that makes road construction costs very high.
