The IOOF Cemetery in Norman
was established in 1891 and is an interesting place to visit. Only
recently, in 2002, has it been known that Nora Belle Guthrie was
buried here in June of 1930. She is the mother of the legendary
folk musician Woody Guthrie. The coordinates to the cache can be
obtained by going to the headstone just to the west of Mrs.
Guthrie’s to look at the dates of birth for the wife and husband.
Ignoring the decimal point, make the following calculations, but
replace the decimal point to input into the GPSr. Perform the
calculations on the original coordinates listed above.
1. Add the wife’s year of
birth to the last five digits of the latitude and subtract 1992.
This will be the new latitude coordinate.
2. Subtract the husband’s
year of birth from the last five digits of the longitude and add
970. This will be the new longitude coordinate.
You are looking for a 30
cal. ammo can which has Kand kamo and was stuffed with wonderful
items at the 2007 Healdton CITO event. Please be respectful of the
area. The cemetery is open during daylight hours.
