High Force is one of the highest unbroken falls of water in England and undoubtedly the most impressive.
It reveals some of the rocks formed during dramatic events that have shaped much of the landscape of the North Pennines.
These rocks, which form the surrounding hills, step-like features in the landscape and the base of the waterfall, were formed around 330 million years ago, during the period of Earth history known as the Carboniferous.
Earth movements over time caused molten rock to rise, forming a flat sheet known as the Whin Sill. This hard rock is more resistant to weathering than the Carboniferous rocks surrounding it and forms distinct landscape features, including High Force.
Millions of years later, about 18.000 years ago, the North Pennines was covered by an ice sheet that sculpted the landscape.
When the ice melted at the end of the Ice-Age, huge volumes of meltwater flowed through the dale.
This eroded the channel of the River Tees.

Your task;
1.: On the informationpanels, you will find names of fossils. Alternatively, while in Covid-19 regulations, you can look them up at the website of High Force. Give me two names of fossils you can find here.
2.:Also email me the contents of the lower rocks (what type of stone)
3.: Explain the term “columnar joints”
4.: Make a picture of a teammember holding the GPS with High Force in background (optional, but nice!)

Update: The panel is replaced for a new one. You should easily find the information about fossiles online.
