Geocache Description:

Upper River Ouse Locks – Bonus is one of a series of 20 caches including this bonus, set along the River Ouse in Sussex, north of Lewes.

The above coords are NOT for the cache. You do NOT need to go there. They represent the hand off point from poohtiggs to Go Pack Go on this series, namely the A275.

The River Ouse in Sussex is tidal south of Lewes. To the north it relied on a series of 19 locks to make the river navigable from Hamsey up to what is now Ardingly Reservoir, a distance of over 11 miles ATCF and much longer by winding river. It was once a significant waterway in the days before the iron horse came.

The idea of this series was to find the locks, or as many of them as possible, and place caches as near to them as possible. This in itself was quite a challenge as we had no coordinates or reliable mapping to work with. In addition to this, the banks of the River Ouse are privately owned in many places and access is not possible. The 10 most northerly lock caches have been set by poohtiggs while the 10 most southerly (including bonus) have been set by Go Pack Go and they are split by the A275.

You will need to visit each of the 19 cache locks to collect bonus clues that will un-lock the bonus 20th cache. The 19 cache locks can be visited in any order and each will contain a bonus letter and number on the front of the log sheet. Be sure to make a note them as you will need to find them to be able to find and access the bonus cache.

This series has been set in the hope that it can be challenging to your all round caching skills, as was our search for the old locks. To further help the challenge, they have all been set without clues, quite deliberately, so no complaints please. You can turn up on site and do each one of them with the basic cache page info to hand and your trusty GPSr, but you may have to use appropriate levels of stealth and hunting skills when required. The bonus cache does require you to visit the other 19 first though.

This Cache:

Upper River Ouse Locks – Bonus

Suggested parking is at: ...a familar place that you should already have been to on your journey through the locks series.

Cache location can be deduced by visiting all the previous 19 caches in the series to obtain the clues, working out the following and then following the subsequent trail:

N50 5?.???
E000 0?.???

(G+N)-J
(T*M)-(E+K)
(H+P)-(B+Q)
(S+I)-(R+C)

(MxB)-(SxD)
(A+C+K)-(M-P)
(F+R+L)-(H+F+B)
(Q+T+N+I)-(ExA)

Clues: These decoded coordinates will lead you to an easy to find nano, the only one of the series. This will contain the next set of coordinates you will need together with a 'life-line', as accuracy was not the best when setting, but use it sparingly... However, the life-line will only be forthcoming if all 19 previous Upper River Ouse Locks caches have been found by you.

As we are so nice we will even give you a hint for the nano, which is: 'Low, inside and up'

We hope you enjoy the walk and what you find along the way.

Happy caching!!

PS. Please replace everything as you find it.
