ITALIANO: Caprona è un piccolo centro nelle vicinanze di Pisa, facilmente raggiungibile lungo la strada per Uliveto. La Torre di Caprona viene citata da Dante nel canto XXI dell'Inferno, parlando della battaglia tra Pisa e Firenze del 16 agosto 1289, alla quale il poeta aveva assistito; egli dice che vide i pisani sconfitti uscire "patteggiati" (cioè dopo essersi arresi) e timorosi di fronte al numeroso esercito fiorentino.
La Torre odierna (Torre degli Upezzinghi) non è più quella menzionata da Dante, ma è ciò che rimane del castello che dominava il paese. Essa si affaccia oggi su una cava dismessa, ed è purtroppo in condizioni precarie, tanto che una rete ne limita l'accesso.
Per raggiungere la Torre, arrivati a Caprona si consiglia di parcheggiare in Via delle Cave e proseguire a piedi a destra fino alla salita sterrata. Dopo la salita (località Palazzaccio) troverete un punto di sosta con dei tavoli di legno, da lì il cammino per la Torre è semplice e lineare.

ENGLISH: Caprona is a small village near Pisa, you can easily reach it by the street for Uliveto. The Tower of Caprona was citated from Dante in canto XXI of the Inferno, talking about the battle from Pisa and Florence in 16 August 1289, that Dante has watched; he says that he watched the pisan troops go out after surrending, frightened in front of the numerous florence troops.
The actual Tower (Tower of Upezzinghi) is not that Dante said, but is what remain of the castle that was build over the village. Today the Tower stay on an old rock cave, and is in precary conditions, in fact a net block the access.
To reach the Tower, in Caprona we suggest you to park in Via delle Cave and go right on foot to the unasphalted street. After the ascent (locality Palazzaccio) you can find a point of stop with wooden tables, from here the walking for the Tower is simple and linear. The cache is a box located before the net.
