Icomb Place Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Griff Grof: Very sad to have to archive this cache, which I found whilst placing my Westcote Wander series. Checked on it today and the cache was nowhere to be seen, so I think it's time to put this one to bed.

It has been an honour to adopt and subsequently maintain this cache, and it's sad that I'm the one who has to archive it.

However, it has gone missing three times, twice since I adopted it. Of course I've considered relocating the cache - but that wouldn't have felt right, it wouldn't have been the same 'Icomb Place.'.

On Rosie's Rangers and biogoo's behalf, I thank all of you for your logs, photos and favourite points. I hope we will all remember this great cache when passing by in the years to come! [:D]

Geocache Description:

 photo CWViewbanner_zps68c46cbf.jpeg

A nice walk starting from the lovely village of Icomb, with great views. There are no stiles, just gates, but a little bumpy for buggies. Can be done while completing the local "Westcote Wander" series.

Suggested parking at N51°54.127, W001°41.505, in the village of Icomb, please don't drive along the lanes any further as they are private and offer no parking places. The footpaths seem to have moved slightly from the OS Map I was using, so use the waypoint N51°54.105, W001°41.332 to find the turning to get to the cache.

Icomb Village

Icomb is situated just outside Stow-on-the-Wold. In the 17th century, Icomb was a hiding place for brigands. Three men (Tom, Dick and Harry) from a respectable family operated from Icomb, using an old quarry shaft under their cottage. During a robbery Dick lost an arm and was never heard of again. Tom and Harry went to the gallows in 1785 (see nearby cache Tom, Dick & Harry). In the Parish Church (1249), is the tomb of Sir John Blaket who gained the highest honours fighting with King Henry V at Agincourt.

Nowadays, Icomb is a peaceful village with wonderful properties to see and fabulous walks all around the village and beyond.
