This is a nice walk of about 1/3 mile in Maer Hills. The parking area has room for 3 cars, please don't block the gate! If you are heading here while doing the Cacheopean Union series, turn left at Netherlands, heading roughly North, then turn right as you seem to be leaving the woods.
The reason for the cache name will become obvious when you get close. Update: Well, it used to. When I placed the cache the nearby compound had the name "MERLIN" on the gate. It was part of the Merlin Project, associated with Jodrell Bank, one of the network of telescopes across the counrty taking part of the project run from Manchester University. The project has now been wound up, and replaced with an online "eMerlin" project. You can find out more by checking online.
Please keep to the paths, tarmaced for most of the way. The cache is hidden just a few feet from the path, near to the trig point. Beware of muggles, as the hills are a favourite with dog-walkers.
The original location was a little further up the path, beyond the trig point, but on checking today (15th July 2015) the whole area is quite overgrown, not how I remember it at all from my early visits. Despite this I went straight to the hiding place, and the cache was missing. I have relocated the cache with a replacement somewhere much easier to get to.
No additional clues, but it really isn't too hard!
